The Age of the Earth II

eteorites and Craters

1Meteors continually shower onto the earth, millions of them daily. Most of them burn up in the atmosphere, but some reach the ground and these are called meteorites. Such meteorites usually make craters, which are quite easy to locate. One of the most famous craters is in Arizona (see picture); it is 1265 m (4150 feet) wide and 175 m (575 feet) deep.Scientists have searched the rock strata—which were supposed to be laid down during the last 5 billion years—for craters and meteorite rocks. But none were ever found! All craters and meteorites lie on, or near the surface. This either means that meteors somehow “avoided” the earth for billions of years, or that the earth is young and the rock strata were laid down rapidly.

Atmospheric Helium

Atmospheric helium comes from three sources:
– radioactive decay of uranium and thorium
– helium from space, especially from the sun
– nuclear reactions in the earth’s crust

The atmosphere contains about 3.6 billion tons of He-4, and the rate of helium formation is about 300,000 tons per year. Thus, the earth’s atmosphere cannot be older than 12,000 years. Some evolutionists speculate that the helium is escaping into outer space, but research has shown this cannot happen. Worse yet, we are receiving helium from space. Again, all the evidence is in support of a young earth:

After stating the above, Kofahl and Segraves conclude that, using all three helium sources in the calculation, earth’s atmospheric age would be reduced to 10,000 years.  (Vance Ferrell, Origin of the Universe, Evolution Disproved Series, p. 160.)

River Deltas

2Many large rivers form deltas when entering the sea or ocean. These deltas are gradually built up from sediments carried there by the river. Therefore river deltas continually grow. For example, Ur of the Chaldees was a seaport on the Persian Gulf a few thousand years ago. Since then, the delta of the Tigris and the Euphrates rivers filled in part of the Persian Gulf. Now Ur is about 200 miles from the sea (see map).By measuring the sediments dumped, and the rate of growth, we can determine a delta’s age. The Mississippi River dumps 300 million cubic yards (229 million cubic meters) of mud into the Gulf of Mexico each year, and as a result the State of Louisiana is getting larger. Its delta has been extensively studied, more than any other delta, and shows an age of about 4000 years. The same age can be said for other deltas throughout the world. This age corresponds with the approximate time of the Flood. Evolutionists maintain that everything occurred at the same rate as it does today, and the earth is around 5 billion years old. But if the Mississippi delta was only 120,000 years old, it would reach up through all of North America and start at the North Pole!

Oceans

The following are some of the facts pointing to the young age of the oceans:

  • We find many cliffs, mountains and underwater canyons below sea level in the oceans. If the earth were billions of years old, all these would have been flattened out due to erosion.
  • Recent measurements and studies of coral growth in the oceans reveal that coral formations may be much younger than initially thought, less than 3500 years.

Volcanoes

3Volcanoes spew forth about a cubic mile (4 km3) of material annually. 10 times the volume of the earth’s sediments would have been produced in 4.6 billion years at the current rate. But only ¼ of the sediments are of volcanic origin, and there is evidence of much greater volcanic activity in the past. Volcanoes also point to a young earth.

Oil and Gas Pressure

According to evolutionists, the oil and gas in the earth was trapped there millions and millions of years ago. This oil and gas has great pressure. It is the pressure that makes the oil gush out of the oil wells. Modern wells in Saudi Arabia generally produce over 10,000 barrels a day. The study of the surrounding rocks indicates that the pressure should have “bled off” in just several thousand years. If the evolutionists were right, the pressure in these underground chambers should have dropped to zero long ago, but obviously this is not so. These high pressures point to a young Earth.

Abnormally high oil, gas, and water pressures exist within relatively permeable rock. If these fluids had been trapped more than 10,000 to 100,000 years ago, leakage would have dropped the pressure far below what it is today. This oil, gas, and water must have been trapped suddenly and recently. (Walt Brown, In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood, p. 24.)

Tree Longevity

45There are giant sequoia trees living in California, that have no enemies except man. If man doesn’t cut them down, they keep on living and living; not even bugs or forest fires can hurt them. Though they can, according to observation, live “forever”, no sequoia older than about 4000 years has been found. These trees have been there ever since the beginning! Their age shows us the approximate time of the end of the Flood.

Perhaps the most intriguing of the unanswered questions regarding longevity in conifers has to do with Sequoia gigantea trees, which, some believe, may enjoy perpetual life in the absence of gross destruction, since they appear immune to pest attacks… Does this mean that shortly preceding 3275 years ago (or 4000 years ago, if John Muir’s count was correct) all the then living giant sequoias were wiped out by some catastrophe?  (Edmund Schulman, “Longevity Under Adversity in Conifers”, Science)

Civilizations

The age of civilizations should tell us much about how long humans have existed. Evolutionists say that man has been around for about 1 million years, or so. If this were true, the earliest civilizations should reach back quite some time into the past, and we should have written records from hundreds of thousands of years ago. But even the earliest civilizations only go back to 2-3000 BC. These civilizations appeared suddenly and fully developed.

The civilizations spring into view suddenly. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is constructed of more than two million enormous blocks of limestone each weighing two and a half tons in a structure nearly 500 feet (152.4 m) high and 570 feet (173.7 m) square at the base… this was the largest structure ever erected by man, and even today (note: 1967) it is only exceeded by the Grand Coulee Dam in the United States. Yet only a century before the Great Pyramid was built, no stone building existed anywhere in the world. Does this look like Evolution?  (H. Enoch, Evolution or Creation, 1967, p. 131.)

Some of the earliest civilizations were the Hebrew, Sumerian and Egyptian civilizations. For example, there is no well-authenticated Egyptian date before about 1600 BC. The same can be said for Sumerian dates. No older written records have ever been found either.

Using Bible chronology, we arrive at the date of the Creation in about 4000 BC and the Flood in 2300-2400 BC. The start of civilizations corresponds with the end of the Flood, more accurately with the confusion of tongues at the Tower of Babel, shortly thereafter. It is also an interesting fact supporting the Bible, that all the earliest civilizations originate in the Near East, where Noah’s ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat (in modern Turkey).
Population Growth

7There has been considerable population growth in this century. The time period between AD 1600-1800 is considered a typical time to analyze population growth before this century. One analysis found that by extrapolating back, there was only one family in 3300 BC. Another study found that starting with a family at the end of the Flood (c. 2300 BC), the population at the time of Christ would have been 300 million people. This is actually the accepted population at that time.If we start with a family 1 million years ago, and a very low growth rate of 0.01% annually, by now we would have 2.67*1043 people compared to the current 6*109. To hold them, 4.45*1033 (1033 means 1 followed by 33 zeros) planets like ours would be needed.

Conclusion

All the above mentioned facts show that the earth is young, a few thousand years old. There is obviously no time for evolution to happen, besides the fact that it couldn’t happen anyway. After this you should see evolution for what it is, probably the greatest hoax of our times.
